Rathsallagh House

Rathsallagh House is a gem of a wedding venue hidden away on the Kildare-Wicklow border.

The walled garden is all you need for the family photos and some lovely shots of the bride and groom. There are a few doorways and arches on the way over to the garden which can be used to great effect framing your subjects.
If it rains the orangery is available for family photos, as are the reception rooms which have a little less light. The doorways can be used for some outside photos of the bride and groom - the photogrpaher will be out in the rain; part of the job.

Powerscourt House

Little introduction needed to anyone who has walked around the grounds of Powerscourt. The reception area in the house has quite a bit of light and a few really nice features including the entrance, the stairs and the double height reception room.
The couple and their guests get the run of the gardens after about 5:30pm when visitors leave. The gardens are idylic with views down over the little sugar loaf. There are so many areas where you can take great photos with amazing backdrops, probably too many.
One itinery for the bride and groom photos is just to walk down to the far side of the lake and back using the main steps. It doesn't take too long and gives a huge range of photo opportunities.
The family photos can be taken at the top of the steps or in the walled garden to the side of the main house. Pray it doesn't rain, there are spaces for photos inside, but it would be a huge pity.

Oceans Sands Hotel, Enniscrone

The hotel is right at the beach in Enniscrone. The beautiful long beach is the main area for photos. I really like the castle-type building out near the sea, it's a magical backdrop for some shots.
The hotel itself has a large balcony overlooking the sea and a light filled reception room for family photos if required.

Middleton Park House

Middleton Park House is a stunning period house in the midlands with tons of character. A perfect spot for wedding photos.

The front of the house is great for those dramatic shots of the house and couple. The gardens, while very developed, can provide nice light and backgrounds for group photos.

Inside, the staircase is an amazing feature. Elsewhere there are some period reception rooms, an orangerie with tons of light and the bridal suite. There is no shortage of light and inspiration.

Mount Wolseley

This is a big hotel outside Tullow in Carlow. The new hotel sits in grounds beside the old house and gardens.

The gardens are a perfect area for family photos and the couple. There are some nice walkways, a wrought iron gazebo and the house itself as a backdrop.

The huge staricase is an interesting feature in the reception area of the main hotel. If it rains the wedding reception area can be used for group photos.

Millhouse, Slane

The Millhouse in Slane is a really great alternative to the larger hotels. Mostly weddings are accomodated in a marquee on the grounds of the old house. On a sunny day the ceremony can be on the grounds outside overlooking the river.

The old house is a beautiful backdrop for some photos as are the older buildings and the river. Inside the house the stairs and large windows give tons of opportunity for creativity.

Lyrath Estate

A beautiful old country house on the road into Kilkenny. It's been extended to a large hotel while retaining the period rooms and features. There are large grounds to the side of the old house and a large pond behind the new part of the hotel.

Outside, there are lots of opportunities in the garden for a variety of shots. The large trees can give some shade on very sunny days. There's some nice painted benches and a lovely old stone staris leading up to the hotel.

Inside there's even more  - a huge old staircase, the light-filled foyer and the old reception rooms with large windows which can also be used for the ceremony.
